Religion and Human Nature.

I am not one to discuss religion or politics. I have always maintained that a discussion of both topics rarely does anything to sway anyone's view. Mostly it becomes a shouting match with parties leaving disgruntled rather than enlightened.
However, that being said, I think I should chime in on Father Alberto Cutie.
I am not Roman Catholic and I do not claim to understand a bit of their views and traditions. I don't get their views on contraception. Sex should be used for procreation and not pleasure, is that what they are saying? In these times I think that they are turning a blind eye to the fact that there are Catholics having pre-marital sex but without contraceptives, which unfortunately leads to many other sins. I could say a funny about thats why sex within the Catholic church takes place on a homosexual level... but that's not funny, or kind. Especially to the homosexual population. The little that I know about Father Alberto Cutie.. is that he was a Catholic priest who decided to have a girlfriend. He thinks that being a Catholic priest and taking a vow of celibacy is unnatural. So he has excommunicated himself from the Catholic church... gone on to an Episcopalian one and has intentions of marrying his divorcee girlfriend. Good for him.
Yet, in the news everyday he is being hounded by the paparazzi with them plastering pictures of him and his girlfriend frolicking on the beach. Isn't that what normal couples do? There has been worse things happening within the Catholic church and so the mere fact that Father Cutie is in fact caught up with a woman (who is of age and who he plans to marry) should be celebrated.
It's not the first time something like this has happened? Didn't anyone watch The Thorn Birds??

I am so with yyou on this one! The Catholic Church needs to allow marriage! Otherwise the sicko paedophiles will continue to use the church as somewhere to hide!
First time visiting, came by way of Tami...
Thanks for stopping by.
I am Catholic and i too believe that marriage should be allowed like in the Anglican Church is basically the same thing. However, just to clarify, the Church doesn't regard sex only for the purpose of procreation. they advocate and even mandate sex within marriage for closeness and pleasure. in fact the church doesn't acknowledge the marriage until consummation presumably on the wedding night.
So you went with the Thorn Birds. Yes I did see that movie and read the book as well. Well you know I'm with you on this one. Sex is one Maslow's hierarchy of needs as one of the basic and fundamental needs of life. And truth be told, a mutliple of documentaries have been done explaining that it is because priests are forced into an unnatural celibacy lifestyle that they eventually end up having sexual relations with each other.
Some have even expounded that it is because many priests begin their journey to priesthood in the early teens that htey become sexually stunted and that's why many as men end up having relationships with young boys...because that's the actual level of their sexual maturity.
But yes I agree that to hound a man because he realized that he could both serve God and fulfill another of god's sacraments - marriage is a little silly. Are they hounding the pedophiles...they should.
